Where to Eat Lunch in Waikiki

Lunch is perhaps the best motivator for getting through the day, so don’t settle. You have one blissful opportunity to get it right! Lucky for you, we’ve found the tastiest daytime stops for where to get lunch in Waikiki. Whether an on-the-go or a leisurely meal is needed, find it here. The following spots excel at the midday meal, and meet our ‘know it when you see it’ criteria for true Waikiki lunch spots - it just feels like lunch, whether it’s sandwiches, tacos, or a classic Hawaiian plate lunch. You deserve a lunch break.

Although we strive to provide the most current information, restaurants mentioned may close at any time, operate with a limited menu or reduced hours, or have takeout options only. We recommend checking individual websites for operating hours, updates, and social distancing measures before visiting.

Pioneer Saloon

Typically made up of grilled meat, macaroni salad, and white sticky rice, the Hawaiian plate lunch is a comfort food we’ve come to love. Whether you decide to eat it in or take it to go, Pioneer Saloon’s plate lunch is a standout on the island. Their plate lunch menu features items like Ribeye Steak, Chicken Egg, Tonkatsu (pork cutlet), Shoyu pork, Grilled Ahi Spicy Chili with Ponzu, and Spicy Garlic Yakiniku. Find this hidden gem restaurant at the base of Diamond Head, just up the hill from Kapiolani Park. Open Monday - Sunday 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. 3046 Monsarrat Ave. 0.7 miles from Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel.

O'ahu Mexican Grill (OMG)

The second-story eatery on Waikiki’s Kalakaua Avenue is as authentic as it is boundary-pushing. Experience the flavors of Mexico with a Hawaiian twist with popular plates like Kalua carnitas wrapped in a large, soft flour tortilla, Mahi Mahi fish tacos, and their signature OMG queso. OMG offers special discounts on Thursdays for Kama'aina and military personnel, just be sure to show your ID. Open daily 11 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. 2520 Kalakaua Ave., 2nd floor (above Burger King and ABC Store). 0.1 miles from Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel.

Marugame Udon

You’ll often find long lines outside this local hot spot, where thick, handmade wheat Udon noodles are served fresh in every bowl. Try the best-selling Curry Nikutama Udon, served with made-to-order Udon noodles, seasoned sweet beef, and a soft egg in curry sauce. Order from their extensive tempura menu, where you can sample shrimp, squid, sweet potato, crab meat, and so much more by the piece. Open daily 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. 2310 Kuhio Ave. 0.6 miles from Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel.

Barefoot Beach Café

The casual outdoor café on Queen’s Beach at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki features traditional Hawaiian plates and standard American fare. Although dishes like the Barefoot Burger (a 40 year old recipe!) Garlic Shrimp, and Queen’s Surf n’ Turf shine, Barefoot Beach Café also features lighter lunch fare from their separate vegan menu and fresh fruit smoothies. Open daily 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. 2699 Kalakaua Ave. 0.3 miles from Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel.
