Waikiki’s Best Ice Cream Shops

As the summer heats up, the best day of the season is rounding the corner: National Ice Cream Day. This July 18, head to Waikiki’s best ice cream shops for new and innovative flavors the local creameries are churning up. There's no better time to be an ice cream lover, and we've got the scoop.

Although we strive to provide the most current information, restaurants and cafés mentioned may close at any time, operate with a limited menu or reduced hours, or have takeout options only. We recommend checking individual websites for operating hours, updates, and social distancing measures before visiting.

Café Glacé

Located within Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel, Café Glacé offers homemade waffle cones and 32 artisan gelato and sorbet flavors daily. Their award-winning ice creams come in decadent flavors like white chocolate macadamia, caramel sea salt, chai tea latte, and milk tea boba as well as exotic fruit flavors like passion fruit, mango, and coconut. 2570 Kalakaua Ave.

Lappert’s Hawaiʻi

Thankfully, Waikiki is stacked with incredible ice cream and frozen treat spots that will help fight the heat. Taste the Hawaiian islands with Lappert’s signature flavors like Banana Fudge, Coconut Macadamia Nut, Kona Coffee, Big Island Inspiration (vanilla ice cream with fudge brownies, chocolate chunks, and chocolate covered macadamia nut shortbread), and Kauaʻi Pie (Kona Coffee ice cream with coconut flakes, dark chocolate fudge, Hamakua macadamia nuts, and vanilla cake crunch). Lappert’s super premium ice cream is often lauded as the best ice cream in Honolulu! 2005 Kalia Rd.

Island Vintage Shave Ice

Island Vintage Shave Ice serves up no-frills frosty, creamy treats like organic soft serve, gelato, and frozen yogurt with toppings like honeycomb, matcha syrup, azuki bean, and natural fruit syrups in lilikoi, strawberry, and mango. Find Island Vintage Shave Ice outside the Royal Hawaiian Center in Waikiki. 2201 Kalakaua Ave. Kiosk B-1

Kokoro Café

The busy soft serve counter within the Royal Hawaiian Center is home to Hawaiʻi’s only Shaka-shaped ice cream cone. Kokoro’s world famous Shaka-Boom dessert is filled with chocolate cream or caramel sauce and then topped with soft serve in flavors like pineapple or cherry dole whip and toppings such as Fruity Pebbles, matcha powder, white chocolate sauce, chocolate Pocky sticks, and li hing powder. 2233 Kalakaua Ave.

Banán

Those with dairy-free diets no longer have to miss out on the quintessential summer treat. Banán’s soft serves are made with locally grown bananas in flavors like açaí and banana that are almost too good to be dairy-free. They also throw in other island-grown fruits, veggies, herbs, and spices to create dairy-free frozen goodness. Enjoy your soft serve in a banana peel or a pineapple yacht, sundae-style with a variety of locally sourced toppings. Banán is located in a beach access next to The Cheesecake Factory. 2301 Kalakaua Ave.

Matcha Café Maiko

Matcha Café Maiko isn’t for the regular ice cream crowd. Try tasty matcha treats straight from Japan. Thick, homemade matcha soft serve ice cream is served in a parfait, float, frappe, or crispy cone that is made fresh daily. Authentic toppings include matcha chiffon, chestnuts, shiratama mochi, and homemade adzuki beans. 2310 Kuhio Ave. #143

Magnolia Ice Cream & Treats

You won’t find nostalgic ice cream flavors at Magnolia Ice Cream. The ice cream shop within International Market Place is for those craving something more adventurous. Bring ‘Hawaiʻi’ to your palate with eyebrow-raising flavors like ube (sweet purple yam), taro, lychee, avocado, halo-halo (a mix of tropical fruits and beans), langka (jackfruit), buko pandan (young coconut with pandan leaf), and mais queso (corn and cheese). 2330 Kalakaua Ave.

Double Fat Ice Cream

Double Fat Ice Cream’s locally spun, small batch favorites include flavors like Kona Coffee, Honey Furikake, and Yuzu Creamsicle, along with specialty sundaes like the Crack Seed Delight, which features a scoop each of strawberry (with chunks of strawberry folded in) and sweet cream ice cream, sprinkled with li hing powder, mochi crunch, and dried salted plum pieces. Find the Double Fat Ice Cream kiosk at ‘Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach, alongside Ke’alohilani Ave. and Beachside Tower next to the Greetings Tour mural. 2490 Kalakaua Ave.
