Oʻahu Adventures for the Thrill-Seeking Traveler

Every traveler has their ultimate list of desired experiences while vacationing in Hawaiʻi. While attending a luau or lying on Waikiki Beach has its allure, consider shaking up your routine with an activity guaranteed to thrill. From surfing the waves to flying high above the island, we put together a list of action-packed itineraries for the intrepid traveler. Venture out of your comfort zone with these Oʻahu adventures for the thrill-seeking traveler.

Although we strive to provide the most current information, activities mentioned may be suspended at any time. We recommend checking City and County of Honolulu or State of Hawai‘i mandates and individual websites for operating hours, updates, and social distancing measures before visiting.

Zipline over the Kaʻaʻawa Valley

Take a treetop canopy zipline tour with seven exciting tandem sections, two suspension bridges, and three mini-hiking nature trails at Kualoa Ranch. Known as “Hollywood’s Hawaiʻi Backlot”, the ranch was the filming site for over 50 movie and television shows, including Jurassic Park, Godzilla, and LOST. Zip through native flora and fauna at lengths ranging from 200 feet up to a quarter of a mile in length.

Surf Waikiki Beach

Waikiki’s wave break and sandy bottom is the perfect spot for novice surfers. Surf schools and rentals are available in the area. Before you venture out on the water, watch the waves, assess the ability level of other surfers in the water, and keep your ego at bay to avoid injury to yourself or others. Once you’ve mastered the slow break of Waikiki, opt for one of Oʻahu’s 100 named surf spots surrounding the island.

Rent a Jet Ski

Grab some water sports excitement with a jet ski adventure provided by Hawaiʻi Water Sports Center. Experience the rush of touring the sights and sounds of the South Shore at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. Hawai‘i Water Sports offers jet ski excursions and so much more, including parasailing, snorkeling, bumper tube rides, wakeboarding, waterskiing, and a banana boat ride for the entire family.

Skydive over Hawaiʻi

Fall from 14,000 feet at 120 mph with Skydive Hawaiʻi. Suit up and take a tandem free fall with a licensed, professional USPA instructor for the ultimate adrenaline rush. Lucky freefallers get a 360-degree view of the island which includes sites like Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, Kaʻena Point, and the North Shore coastline. Are you ready to take the plunge? Visit Skydive Hawaiʻi to book your reservation.

Go on a Hard Hike

Whether it’s big elevation changes, switch-backing, or covering serious mileage, Oʻahu has plenty of hiking routes that prove the best ones are often the most challenging. Of course, “challenging” is a subjective term and depends on each hiker’s abilities. Keep that in mind as you browse our list of some of the hardest hikes on the island.
