Diamond Head day hike
Undoubtedly the most popular hike in Oahu, the Diamond Head volcanic crater encompasses 350 acres and stands at an elevation of 762 feet above sea level. Diamond Head is part of the Ko’olau Range of volcanoes that began erupting over 2.6 million years ago. Today, visitors hike the 2-hour journey to the summit to overlook the beautiful coastline. The trail is moderate, yet diverse, with paved surfaces and handrails that transition to uneven rocks, steps, and a narrow tunnel. Go in the morning for glassy seas and watch pretty colors unfold from above. The summit is just over 2 miles from Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel. Explore beneath Waikiki’s surface with Atlantis Submarines. Departing from Waikiki Beach, the recreational submarine submerges 100 feet underwater to get up close to marine life like green sea turtles, sharks, yellow tangs, and eels. You’ll see wonders of the undersea world, including man-made reefs which help create barriers and protective places for the reef and fish to re-grow. The entire immersive underwater experience lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes. Prefer to see Waikiki from the sky? Book a private helicopter tour or tandem freefall with a professional skydiving instructor, of which the island offers many.
